An unexpected afternoon in the sun with Konfidence

Written by "Daddy Rain-shine"

Our hottest day of the year so far and possibly one our few days of sunshine that we will get in Scotland. Tuesday is usually a busy day picking up my eldest daughter from school then rushing to take her to her gymnastics class while I take our youngest daughter for a swim.

With 10 minutes to go before the school run I get a call to say the gymnastics has been cancelled. As it was a nice day I thought it would be nice to get the kids out playing in the garden and for me to cut the grass. As it was sunny and the children have fair skin I wanted to make sure they were protected from the sun.

Perfect solution, Kids UV sunhats.

Kids sun hats

The hats offer great protection from the sun as they have a UV sun protection factor of 40. They are long at the back to protect the back of the neck and have a skip at the front to keep the sun directly away from little ones faces.  They are ideal for home or abroad. Available in pink or blue for little ones under the age of one up to the age of 6 they are a must have for any parent with fair skin children.

Rain-shine are selling these at just £7.49, a real bargain considering the larger sizes cover 2 years of sun protection i.e. age 1-3 years and age 4-6 years. Grab yours here!

It was great to get the kids in the hats again, they love wearing them and it was good for me to know they were safe while playing in the sun.

Here's to many more sunny days to come and lots more fun outdoors in the garden with my girls!

Rain-shine – Winner of Nursery/School Photo Competition 2013

Congratulations to Lauriston Nursery in Dunfermline, winners of our Nursery Competition

I love that the children are obviously all taking turns at helping to make the snow man and you can see them engaged with shovels and snowballs. I like that you can see some of their faces too, it reflects their enjoyment of the experience. I think that, given what the suits are made for, it was a perfect shot of dressing the children for all weathers and enjoying play whatever the weather.”  Louise Caldwell, Play Development Officer who judged the competition

Many thanks to everyone who entered our nursery/school photo competition.  The quality of entries was so great – and they were all from our good customers - that we knew we needed to enlist some help in picking the winner!

And who better qualified to help than a Play Development Officer, Early Years Practitioner and Forest School Leader for the City Of Edinburgh Council, Louise Caldwell.  Louise’s role is to research current practice in play, particularly outdoor play and plan and facilitate play training for those working with children 0-16 years – a perfect judge for our competition!

Without knowing any of the details, Louise chose the above winning picture of the children at Lauriston nursery in Dunfermline, playing outside in March when the snow was still lying.  Fortunately the children had their all in one waterproofs and were wrapped up underneath, keeping them dry and warm.

Ailsa, the nursery manager says “The children were out exploring the snow within our garden area and this group were building a snowman. The Rain-shine suits enable the children to play and explore outdoors in all weathers. They are easy for the older children to put on themselves and are easy to clean.”

When asked why they liked their suits, one child said “because they are red and they match my nursery jacket” and the other said “I like getting muddy with them”.
Ailsa added “We have found the Rain-shine experience a very enjoyable one. Laura is always extremely helpful and pleasant. With every order Laura has gone out her way to help and orders are always delivered promptly.”

We are pleased to say that the nursery is already in the process of placing another order with us and putting their £40 voucher to good use.

Thanks again to our judge and to all our customers who submitted photos.  They all deserve to be winners.  The photos are delightful, and we’ll be sharing them on the website over the coming months.

Louise also shared with us some fantastic Play Outdoors Postcards that she designed for outdoor play on the council website. Our personal favourite is "10 things to do before you are 10" but there are over 20 exciting titles to choose from.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like a no obligation quote for waterproof clothing for your nursery/playgroup/school – our range includes all in one waterproofs, all in one snowsuits, waterproof trousers, waterproof jackets and waterproof dungarees covering from 12 months to 10 years.

Rain-shine - A Recent "Sail"

Never let it be said that Rain-shine doesn’t get about – and in the best of locations, too!  We were delighted to get a phone call out of the blue from this luxury yacht sailing onwards towards Spain.
They had found our website, and were looking for pool shoes to keep the little ones safe around the poolside.  With snug neoprene fitting, the paddlers protect tiny toes from heat and infection while the non-slip soles mean less likelihood of poolside slipping.  And I guess that’s one less worry for parents dipping their toes and sipping on a cool drink as the gentle breeze wafts across the deck…

Ok, so we were a bit jealous.  It seems a long time till summer.

For those of you – like us – where keeping warm is more of a priority at the moment, we should point out that the paddlers also keep out the cold and work just as well at the local pool in the dead of winter.

We also have a large range of quality children's swimwear from reusable swim nappies to baby and children's wet suits.

Please visit http://www.rain-shine.co.uk/childrensswimwear.html  to view our full range.

RAIN-SHINE CUSTOMER PHOTO COMPETITION WINNER 2013

Fun in his all in one snowsuit from Rain-shine

Firstly, many thanks to everyone who took part in our most recent photo competition. With dozens of entries to choose from it was even harder than past years to pick a winner....so much so that we had to enlist some help!

Mum of 3, a part time nurse and child minder, Susan helped us pick our winner this year admitting herself how hard it was.

The winner she chose was this one above of Charlie. When asked why she picked it she said - " It is so easy just to switch on the tv and stay indoors when the weather is bad. The smile on Charlie's face reminds us just how much fun it is to get outdoors and simply enjoy the freedom of play - whatever the weather!!"

Charlie's mum Jodie was delighted to hear Charlie's picture was the winner, telling us "it was taken while walking to the shops in the snow, the normally 5 minute walk to the shops took us over 20 minutes as he kept stopping to make snow angels!!"

She added "I have always found ordering from Rain-shine so simply to do and a great pleasure, I have been ordering Charlie's snowsuits from you for almost 3 years now after having the site recommended to me by a friend. Charlie himself loves his snowsuits and has them on all the time, as he says they keep him warm dry and snug."

As our winner Jodie receives a £30 e-voucher to spend online on our range of products, from more waterproof clothing to swimwear.

Keep watch throughout our site over the coming weeks to see some of the entries yourselves to see ho hard it was to judge.
